Before the age of Homo economicus, some musicians were soul healers and not relentless businessmen. Once healed and less traumatized, human souls start to have more hopes than fear or anger. Thanks to music healers, America was becoming more about hope and not fear. Peace movements grew. More war-averse politicians were elected.
At the bottom of this article you will find a rare link to a collection (playlist) of TV shows hosted by Pete Seeger, the banjo player, folk musician and peace activist. He was a sophisticated reader and thinker but kept his childlike innocence without a drop of hatred or greed in his soul.
He was among the most popular musicians of his era yet he offered his concerts and music for free or cheap to his fans. He lived a long healthy, modest and simple life. Even people who did not agree with his views, respected him as a man of integrity. His fellow musicians respected him too for his loyalty to his family and ideals. This is what Woody Guthrie once said about Pete Seeger:
"That guy Seeger, I can't make him out. He doesn't look at girls, he doesn't drink, he doesn't smoke, the fellow's weird."

I think he saw the world as only someone with an old soul can. Obviously a man of principle and spirituality.
